With more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry, Ray Smith drives Fringe Benefit Group’s corporate strategy, particularly with regards to its retirement and major medical healthcare plans serving the government contractor marketplace. Since joining the company in 2000, he has led the growth of the firm with strong national marketing efforts. In addition, his efforts at Fringe Benefit Group have positioned the firm to provide highly competitive products and services to its clients. He was responsible for establishing new strategic alliances with key financial organizations such as Transamerica Retirement Services, John Hancock USA and Manning and Napier Advisors.
Ray makes a personal effort to educate America’s contractors through published articles and speaking engagements on prevailing wage jobs and the state and federal regulations involved in bidding for those projects. His work at Fringe Benefit Group has paved the way for improved contractor employee benefits and a more cost-effective business climate for contractors.
Prior to joining Fringe, Ray served as Vice President, National Accounts for Manning and Napier Advisors where he was responsible for developing strategic alliances with Third Party Administrators (TPAs). As President of ANLIC, Ray steered the Mutuelle Unies of Paris, France (now known as AXA) acquisition of its first U.S. life insurance company and the subsequent transition from a public to a private corporation. During his tenure as Executive Vice President at Hornor, Townsend and Kent, Inc., an independent securities firm, the company was named Broker Dealer of the year for three consecutive years by Advisor magazine. Ray was co-founder of Asset Management Group, a fee-based financial planning corporation.
Ray is a
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Associate Professional Member (APM) of the
American Society of Pension Actuaries. He is the first Adjunct Professor of
Insurance for the University of South Carolina, has been listed in Who’s Who in
Insurance, is a Charter Board member and Treasurer of the South Carolina Life
Guarantee Association and Vice Chairman of the United Way. |
